Professor of General Linguistics and Chairman of the Interdepartmental Centre of Somali Studies at the University of Roma Tre, she is the Director of the book series “Somali Studies”.
Director of the Department of Linguistics at the University La Sapienza (1991) and of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Roma Tre (1993), she was involved in the creation and implementation of curricula for teachers, particularly aimed to school operators from developing countries.
She spent periods abroad doing research, taking part in seminars, conferences and symposia at various university institutions.
Head of different research projects, she was involved in the organization of numerous scientific conferences and, specifically, she was the Coordinator of the “Third International Congress of Somali Studies”.
Since 1976 she has been appointed member of the Technical Language for the Somali National University by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and she has worked on research activities at various levels, as well as on organizational and managerial activities.
In 1980 she was appointed member of the Executive Committee of the Somali Studies International Association. In 1988 the Somali Minister of Education named her a Honorary Member of the National Commission of the Somali Language as a recognition for her contribution to the study and development of the language and literature of Somalia.
